Brian Brown on MSNBC this morning confident that Same-Sex Marriage would be a thing of past in New Hampshire

Brian Brown, President of National Organization for Marriage came on MSNBC this morning to talk about same-sex marriage in New Hampshire being set to be repealed. He is joined by Craig Stowell, co-chair of Stand Up For New Hampshire Families.

Brian is 100% confident about the outcome and says, “I expect we are going to have a majority here. It would be historic to have a state vote and have a majority vote to say ‘this was wrong, we made a tragic mistake 2 years ago and we are gonna right that wrong and I expect to see a victory today.”

But what really happened in the House Of Representatives… we all know now.  The Bill was defeated and same-sex marriage remains legal in the Granite State. The Republican dominated house rubbed Brian’s face raw against the granite of the Granite State.

Two HUGE victory for the LGBT community and Two HUGE defeats for NOM

Its been a great day for the LGBT community today. We had two victories in one day and when the victories are against National Organization for Marriage (NOM), it tastes even more sweet.

No. 1 and the most important: BILL HB437 which was introduced in New Hampshire to repeal the Same-Sex Marriage law was killed by the republican lead House of Representatives by a whopping 211-116 votes. This is a huge blow for NOM and an incredible but a shocking victory for us considering the House of Representatives in NH is totally GOP dominated.

The 2nd defeat for National Organization for Marriage was when the Director of corporate Fairness Project for NOM Mr. Jonathan Baker asked the CEO of STARBUCKS Mr. Howard Shultz about their declaration to support Same-Sex Marriage.  Mr. Shultz’s response?

“Any decision of this type or magnitude has to be made with great thoughtfulness and I would assure you that a senior team at Starbucks discussed this.  To be very candid with you, this was not something that was a difficult decision for us and we did share this with the board as well…. We made that decision, in our view, through the lens of humanity and being the kind of company that embraces diversity.”  And the auditorium full of stock holders burst into a deafening applause.

Needless to say… NOM is not happy with this answer and has already started to plan its attack against STARBUCKS by designing a “Boycott Starbucks” website which will be launched soon asking people to pledge to boycott the company.

I am not a fan of STARBUCKS coffee, but I pledge to buy atleast 1 coffee every week from them from now on.

Guess we have come a full circle bypassing the end of the world

History in Grade 3 was about the medieval era. The world had emerged from the dark ages and were just stabilizing as a civilization. This was the early middle ages that gave us the societal pyramidal structure where the priests occupied the apex. The public, who were essentially an illiterate mass were controlled by the religious bodies. Any natural calamity (from floods, to famine) on which the humans had no control were stamped as God‘s wrath and sacrifices were demanded to appease HIM. Ofcourse in that era, sacrifices were in kind.

All these ‘sacrifices’ ensured a constant flow of daily needs into the temples and these messengers of God lived a comfortable life without really working for it and enjoyed the power over the mass.

Over the centuries, people became smarter, realized their folly in putting their faith and trust on these opportunists and there was a drastic shift in the structure of the society. The top position which was for all these years was occupied by the messengers of God were taken over by kings and the power changed hands. This was the foundation of the modern world as we know today.

In the modern world, for the longest time, America was hailed as THE country. The rest of the world looked up to it, partly in fear and party in awe. And today, in that same America, which is now just a shimmering shadow of its once glorious past, I hear/read of messengers of God talking about His wrath and how we need to appease Him ( Westboro Baptist Church ), Michele Bachmann ( who said God wanted her to run for presidency ); a quote now taken by Rick Santorum ( either they misinterpreted His orders or God is really getting old and has amnesia, so forgot He had already asked Bachmann to run for president and now asking Santorum ). National Organization for Marriage ( NOM ) asking for donations..( read as sacrifices ) to restore marriage as GOD wanted it to be. The latest being Pat Robertson who claimed the tornadoes to hit Indiana could have been avoided with prayers.

So it looks like we have (or atleast America has ) gone back to the middle ages and the pyramidal structure is once again changing where the apex is in the verge of getting reclaimed by the men of God. I always thought this was bound to happen once this world is destroyed at the end of this year and we start all over again with the dawn of civilization.

But by the looks of it, America has bypassed the destruction of the world bit and the stone age and directly jumped to the medieval era. And that makes me think, maybe that’s what Mayan calendar meant when it predicted that 2012 is going to be the end of the world ( or the world as we know it now). It has all of a sudden started to make sense.

Maggie Gallaghar : Cornered

When I saw Maggie Gallaghar, the first thing it reminded me was of a toad. Then when I heard her speak, it reminded me of a fable about a toad who lived in the bottom of a well for all its life and hence came to think that the well was the entire world. It didn’t and couldn’t comprehend a world beyond the high walls of it.

Like Brian Brown, who was called upon on FOX News ( watch it here) and bombarded with questions about his organization’s stance on same-sex marriage and made a fool of, Maggie went through a similar process but this time on MSNBC in “Up With Chris Hayes“. NOM’s entire foundation is built on lies and Maggie being the co-founder of National Organization for Marriage, its little surprising that all her arguments were false.

From denying advocating gay reparative therapy to trying to establish homosexuality as a pathological disfunction, her lies spread in every word that came out of her mouth.

But as I mentioned the similarity between her and that toad in the well, which goes beyond the physical likeness, is amazing. Add stupidity to that. By coming to these maga chanels time after time and making a fool of themselves, they are actually making it easy for the gay rights activists job to expose them, quite easy. Nothing can show their baseless, bigoted, hateful actions to the mass better than these talk shows which are watched by millions.

If they were smart enough, they would refuse to appear on tv. But their thirst for publicity is so great, they come again and again on national television and get ripped by the hosts. And as a result, what would have taken a lot of energy, hard work precious time and not to mention, man power  (to make the mass see through the false vail of NOM) is made easy. And what can be better than when its done by themselves.

I hope they keep on coming and make an ass of themselves, in her case a toad of herself and we will be just fine.

BREAKING: Washington got enough votes to legalize Same-sex marriage

On Monday, the 25th senator to add her support in favour for SSM is Sen. Margaret Haugen. The house has enough support and Gov. Chris Gregorie has endorsed it making Washington the 7th State to legalize same-sex marriage.

Ms. Haugen stated,“I know this announcement makes me the so-called 25th vote, the vote that ensures passage.” She took her time “to reconcile my religious beliefs with my beliefs as an American, as a legislator, and as a wife and mother who cannot deny to others the joys and benefits I enjoy. This is the right vote and it is the vote I will cast when this measure comes to the floor.”

I just help but wish I was a fly right now and was inside the office of Brian S. Brown of National Organization for Marriage and see his reaction to this bit of news.

A summery of how the LGBT and LGBT friendly candidates did in the latest US election

Maybe not a Tsunami, but definitely a tidal wave of LGBT and LGBT friendly candidates emerged in the latest election in the United States. Ofcourse there were a few bumps but we can’t get it all in one shot. If this is any indication of how the people of United States preferences are, the Republicans have a lot to worry about in 2012’s presidential election.

I will start with

1) Missoula, Montana: Caitlin Copple, an openly gay candidate was elected as the city-council member. Why is  her victory worth mentioning?? Its because she defeated her incumbent who was one of the two council member to vote against an anti-discrimination ordinance that was proposed back in 2010.

2) Lancing, Michigan: A loss here. Rory Neuner lost to her opponents who were reelected. But its not the end of the world.

3) Largo City, Florida: Michael Smith beats his opponent Mary Gray Black who campaigned against him using his sexuality as a tool. She outed him as gay and thought she would secure her seat on the basis of that. But surprise surprise, when Michael won the Commissioner of the city defeating her by 54% votes.

4) Savannah, Georgia: A bump. Pam Miller, who if elected would have been the 1st openly gay city council member did not happen. Georgia is not new to openly gay council members, but it would have been a 1st for Savannah. Better luck next time Pam.

5) Cincinnati, Ohio: Chris Seelbach was elected among 7 other democrats in the city council. He becomes the 1st openly gay candidate to sit in the council. 4 republicans were ousted.

6) Charlotte, North Carolina: LaWana Mayfield was elected by the people of Charlotte who was an openly gay candidate. This is important because North Carolina is debating Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

7) Indianapolis City-county: Zach Adamson got elected as the 1st openly gay council member and restored democrat’s control on the city.

8) Sunniside Unified school district, Arizona: Probably the most happy and satisfying victory was that of Daniel Hernandez in the school board. A little background on him? He was the gay man who became the hero of the Rep.Giffords shooting incident where he saved her life. And yes, Ms. Gabrielle Giffords is one of the few republicans who is definitely not anti-gay. Good luck young man!

9) District 18, Iowa: This probably turned out to be one of the dramatic voting constituency in the last 24 hrs of election when an anonymous robo-call targeting democrat Liz Mathis for being pro-gay. The call warned Iowa voters about the pro-homosexuality stance the democrats have taken and urged them to call Ms. Mathis and ask which homosexual sex acts she endorses. Speculations are National Organization for Marriage (NOM) was behind it, which obviously vehemently denied by NOM. NOM had spent a lot of money to put a republican in the senate which would have lead the path to over rule the same-sex marriage law  passed by the state supreme court and seek for a constitutional ban on it. But with this win, that dream went down the drain.

10) Virginia: Here is a downer. Republican Patrick Forrest lost against state senator Janet Howell. Yes he was republican and gay. There was nasty campaigning that went on making his sexuality as a tool. What proved fruitful in Iowa, unfortunately didn’t in Virginia. But again, although a gay republican would have been highly welcomed, a democrat is not that bad. She won for the 6th term.

11) Houston, Texas: Annise Parker was reelected the mayor of Houston against a lot of mudslinging from her opponents for her sexual orientation. Congratulations!!!

12) San Francisco, California: The gay mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty lost this election while opposition candidate Ed Lee leads considerably. But all is lost here. Out of the 16 candidates there are lots of pro-LGBT mayoral hopefuls.

13) Holyoke, Massachusetts: Saved the best for last. Holyoak just didn’t choose its first openly gay mayor but also the youngest when the elected 22 years old Alex Morse.

So these were the victories and failures in the election. More to be happy about and for a change I am happy to write this blog. Worth mentioning, there were hardly or no tweet from NOM president Brian Brown all of last evening, which added to my happiness. “evil laugh”.

NOM’s “successful” Valuebus tour in IOWA

National Organization for Marriage (NOM) like last year, did their Values Voter Bus tour through the state of IOWA. They proudly announced that they covered 22 cities and more than 1300 miles in 5 days.

Brian Brown had been tweeting for sometime, congratulating everybody who made this event a “success’. And by doing that he redefined “success.” He was not satisfied by just congratulating the 20 people who made it a “success” but went to to release this video. Whatever was left to imagination, before, is not for everyone to see.

There are few shots of 10 to 15 people spread out in front of the bus to make it look like there were tons of people attending the events. You can see kids between the age of 5 and 10 holding up banners. What do they know of marriage and NOM?

Most of the video is focused on the the speakers like Rick Santorum but the camera doesn’t move from their face to the audience so that we can get a clear view of how many were in actual attendance. They could be speaking to an empty venue/lawn for all we know.
