Gay Iranian student attacked at Seneca College

Via Xtra.ca

Mojtaba, 22, an Iranian refugee student ended is college day with a cut in his throat inflicted by a fellow student for being gay and an immigrant.

Below is his account of what happened on 25th November as told to Xtra.

He was waiting for a friend outside the editing suite at the school when another student began to behave unusually.
“He came to me and said, ‘What are you looking at,’” says Mojtaba. “He punched [a nearby] telephone [booth] and he left.”
He recounts, seeing the same man in the 2nd floor.  “He was whispering something to me,” he says. “He was not normal at that time.”
When he confronted the man, Mojtaba says, the man responded with racist and homophobic slurs. He says the man also called him ‘bitch’ and ‘faggot.’ “I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it was like…‘leave here and go back to your fucking country.”
Mojtaba followed the man and asked him to repeat himself.
“He pulled something out of his pocket,” says Mojtaba. But he didn’t get time to see what it was as the attacker had pulled Mojtaba’s hoodie over his face and started to hit him. His throat was cut and there were ink marks leading the police to conclude the object used was a pen.
“I just wanted to protect myself… I just pulled his hair,” he says. He says the man told him, “You’re such a faggot, you’re such a bitch you don’t even know how to fight.”
His attacker is not unknown to him. They are both in the same program and have 2 classes together.
A 21 year old man was arrested by the Toronto Police in connection with the incident.

Under Texas statute, hate crime prosecution will put the charges to 1st degree felony which is punishable with upto 99 years of prison time.

The District Attorney Mr. Gary Young refused to divulge any more information on how the investigation was proceeding.

Texas gay man: Stabbed, beaten and thrown onto a fire

Although I am sick and tired of reporting these hate crimes, I am compelled to do so as this happened in a small town Paris in Reno, Texas. And I am afraid that this heinous crime might get downplayed by the authorities in the very redneck part of United States. If even 5 people read this, thats 5 more people who would know what happened.

Burke Burnett, a 26  year old gay man was stabbed with broken beer-bottles, beaten up and then thrown onto a burning barrel. He was at a straight friends house party. The attackers yelled anti-gay slurs while assaulting him like  “pussy-ass faggot,” “gay bitch” and “cock-sucking punk”.

Mr. Burnett’s girl-friends managed to break-up the fight (if you can call 4 men beating up 1 man a fight) and took him to a hospital while the other party goers just stood there and watched and did not come to help.

Although Mr. Burnett knows all of his attackers and one of them personally, no arrests have been made after one week. Although the investigating officer told Mr. Burnett that this would be classified under hate-crime, there are rumours that the police is planning to downgrade the crime to a misdemeanor as it happened in a party.

As a footnote, Texas is the land of Gov. Rick Perry who is famous for being a homophobe and scarily enough is running for president.

The district attorney‘s number for Lamar County, in Reno, Texas is 1-903-737-2458. Please call and demand a thorough investigation.

Matthew Shepard revisited after over a decade..This time, Scotland is the venue

After over a decade of the gruesome murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming, we are again faced with another horrifying murder of Stuart Walker from Ayrshire, Scotland.

A 28 years old gay man Stuart Walker was tied to a lamp post, brutally beaten up and then burnt to death. Whether burning is the cause of death, that has not been established yet.

Horror is all I feel after reading about the incidence. All other feelings of rage, anger, sadness, hopelessness might seep in later.

Reports of gays being jumped, beaten up, mugged, bullied, harassed are common all over the world. Gays being killed or executed are common in the Middle-east and Africa. But after Matthew Shepard I think this is the 2nd most gruesome act of hate-crime in the western world. In Shepard’s case, there was a chance, if he was found a little earlier, taken to the hospital a little sooner, he might have been saved, or maybe not. But still there was a chance… But in Walker’s case, the culprits left no room for that. His injuries are described as ‘horrific’ by the police. His scorched body was found at around 5 am in Caponacre industrial area, outskirts of town. He was on his way to attend his grandmother’s 80th birthday party.

Police are investigating the murder and trying to gather information from the neighbourhood and trying to gather any leads from the CCTV. Nothing has been disclosed yet.

Here’s to hope the perpetrators are caught sooner than later and brought to justice. Shepard’s parents forgave their son’s murderers. I am just hoping Walker’s family don’t go down the same road, instead see to it that the culprits get punished the harshest way possible.

RIP sweetheart.
